How check battery status ? (FC3)

I  edited the grub.conf and added in the 'kernel' line 'acpi=off'

After a reboot nothing new.  When i try to start apmd it says 'No apm 
support in kernel'
Is this what you mentioned with (some models support ACPI only) or is 
there something else i have to do ?
