Distribution method - could there be a better way?

Personally, I like gentoo's approach: the installation CD would install
just enough to get up and running, and then the user can choose to
install packages from the CD which will need updates, or updated
packages which are then downloaded on-the-fly.
But then, I'm spoiled on a T3 at work, so installing from a DVD iso and
running "yum -y update" afterwards isn't so much an issue...
