Doug,

I've not tried the minimal install but perhaps it does not include X. If
not then what you have would be perfectly correct, you would have just
the command line interface. To see if you have X you could type "startx"
after logging in and see if X starts.

I always install everything (about 6.5G disc space needed) then I know I
have everything (select custom install then when given the list of
things to install scroll down to the bottom and select "everything").
