Do kfind and ark crash on your machines ?

It appeared to lock up for me like your bug report described but 
then it worked for another search.  It may depend on wildcard 
expansion and which directories you search.  For example searching 
for specific files (no wildcard expansion) in my home directory 
seemed to work fine.

There are a number of reports on the KDE.org site about this. For

Since I rarely use the GUI interface for this kind of task I'm not 
surprised I haven't seen it before.  Have you tried killing the 
gam_server (famd's replacement in FC3) to see if that allows kfind 
to work?
