AFAIK (and I've been using it for a decade or so) ckermit has never
provided temrinal emulation. It provides all the power and flexibility
of kermit scripting and file transfer, however. I don't mean to say that
you're stuck without a terminal (ha ha), but rather that you're stuck with
whatever terminal you have. For Windows and MessyDOS, you NEED teminal
emulation since you don't really HAVE any kind of terminal capabilities.
Note that there are a number of different implementations of kermit, of
which I've mentioned just three. Perhaps you're thinking of one of the
other ones for some other platform?

Since the linux console (also xterm) provides services similar to VT100,
you can often get away with using VT100 term type on whatever remote
system you are talking to, as long as it doesn't require the function
keys to work the same way.
