[OT] Software and Hardware audit recording

Good morning all.

I am looking to establish a database of software and hardware ownded buy our
company. Does any one know of a free software intiative that will record all of
this data?

I've had a quick look over at freshmeat, and my searches have come up blank for
the moment.
