Installer starts but fails to find CD

I am having similar problems with an old IBM PC (300GL) with a Mitsumi
drive.  Last time I tried was with FC3Test2.  The first problem
was that the installer would panic the kernel.  That is, initial
splash screen would come up.  Then after typing something
like
     linux mediacheck
and return, it would attempt to boot the install image from CDRom.
(BTW, this is just for example; linux textmode, or just "enter"
performs the same.)
This would result in a kernel panic a while after the message
      running /sbin/loader

On a suggestion I tried
     linux mediacheck hdc=ide-scsi
where hdc is my CDRom drive.  This did avoid the kernel panic
and got the installer up and running, with prompts for keyboard
and language.  However, when it gets to attempting to access
the CDRom, it results in behaviour similar to yorus, i.e. the
installer can't find the Fedora CD.  Investigation using the
debugging screens CTL-ALT F2 and F3 seems to indicate that the
failure occurs when the installer is attempting to mount the CD.

Don't know whether this bug is the one causing your problem.
This bug has been present for some time (since FC2; apparently
since one of the test releases of FC2).  It has been slow going
getting it fixed because most people use the workaround of
buying a newer CDRom drive.
