Why no /proc/config.gz on FC-3 kernel?

Name *one* good reason for doing /proc/config.gz over
Copying it to /boot/.   I've seen this proposed multiple
times (on-list and in bugzilla), and not seen a single compelling
reason to turn it on.

It's not 'going its own way' for no reason, its done
this way because the other way is _stupid_, and offers 
no additional benefit over a method which uses zero
memory.
