Hi David, have a look at

I had almost the same exact error message and using the 
http://people.redhat.com/~katzj/fc3-part-upd.img

got me past the assertion error, now I have a different error stopping me
from a FC2 - FC3 upgrade

 when trying to install fc3 over fc2 i only get to this then fails;

im running amd64 with a wd on
bbs_1(raid): wdc wd360gd-00fn
never any problem before with fc1 fc2
