xcdroast and 2.6.x kernel in user mode

Hi!

I was surprised, that xcdroast can not record CD's in user mode, only in 
root, since i was using RH9 for recording. I've found out that this is 
the 2.6.x kernel issue that has to do with security.
Anybody knows something more about this? How to recompile the kernel to 
bypass this (if possible) ? Also any additional info is welcome.
