new kernel 2.6 and USB (hid) error

I forgot. Now that I'm at kernel 2.6 then ALSA should be available.
Oh nooooooooo, I have to figure this out.
so remaining tasks:
1. ALSA
2. "true" upgrade to either FC2 or FC3. The yum "upgrade" upgraded
packages but I am not at FC2 according to when I boot. I still see
"Yarrow", not "Tettnang".
The fun continues.
