to add to Bob's reply (in case you need a bit of extra info)
Incorrect monitor settings prevent monitors from displaying resolutions above 
safe minimum settings.
to change this (or check your settings)
system-config-display
(or redhat-config-xfree86 if you are not running FC2)
this should give you a graphical tool with two tabs. click on the 'advanced' 
tab and look at the settings for your monitor. These may need changing.
If you cannot find your exact monitor model then choose one of the Generic 
settings that matches the resolution you want.
(btw the correct settings for a Dell M782 are
Horizontal Sync:	30.0-85.0
Vertical Refresh:	50.0-160.0
)

once you've fixed this, go bask to the Settings tab and choose the res you 
want.
