acrobat 6 for Linux?

Good question then. If I save PDF files created with Adobe Acrobat
version 6 with compatibility >= 5 I get PDF 1.4 documents. If saving
with compatibility >= 6 they are PDF 1.5.

Did you try to open the PDF files using ggv or gpdf?
