The underlying interface is _cdrecord_ and, of course, the kernel.
The kernel update limits the way cdrecord can access the hardware.
It's a feature, not a bug. The recent cdrtools update packages were
supposed to fix this, but they didn't.

By default it does not do that. That warning is disabled in the FC2
package.

Part of your problem. Stick to Fedora Core packages, since xcyborg's
packages may be different, may contain or lack FC2 patches, and so on.
