Good point -- I guess that doesn't count as killing it externally. I often
don't think of this one because I tend to ssh from host to host, and ~.
kills the topmost one -- not always what you want. (You can use multiple
tildes to overcome this, but then you have to remember how many connections
you've made.)

Note that this sequence must come after a newline (which is why I can type
it in this message!), so you may need to type "<enter>~."
