I had a similar problem where all the usuals looked
good (NUM, CAPS etc) but the login kept failing. Ended
up that the problem was the key board. The "k" key on
the keyboard was damaged and when pressed it would
type other letters. I was using short login names (3
to 4 letters) but my passwords were longer, so "k" was
not in my login but was in my password. Since the
password is hidden with ***** I could not see the
problem. Maybe you could try typing out all the
letters and look for problems.
