Run system-config-authentication and disable all auth mechanisms you
don't use. Following is basic auth configuration:

$ cat /etc/sysconfig/authconfig
USECRACKLIB=yes
USEDB=no
USEHESIOD=no
USELDAP=no
USENIS=no
USEPASSWDQC=no
USEWINBIND=no
USEKERBEROS=no
USELDAPAUTH=no
USEMD5=yes
USESHADOW=yes
USESMBAUTH=no

which uses only the local system and no other host resources.
