IP Addresses

you in a private network that is using NAT to forward packets to your
box.

Most ADSL modems use DHCP to request a public ip address from ISP.
If this is the case then you public ip address will not be the same. 

You say you have a router; I assume you have it installed between the
modem and the box.

Internet

------- private ip address (10.x.x.x)

if this is indeed the case, the same principle holds; you will have a
public ip address that will change on your modem.

You will need to request a static ip for the outside interface on your
router. Then you can use Nat port forwarding on the router to reach your
box.
