Yeah. VNC will do from one machine to another one.
I don't understand the same machine to machine bit though. Are you
talking about a Virtual Machine? If you are then VNC doesn't do this.
You need VMware Virtual Machines software. This is fairly pricey. I
don't know of an Open Source version though.

tightvnc on linux and ultravnc on windows.
