FC2 2.6.5-1.358 rebuild

Whenever I try to build a custom kernel, make modules_install errors with an Out of memory error.  Has anyone successfully rebuilt this kernel?  

Pentium II/233
96MB RAM
20G hd

make mrproper
make config
make dep
make clean
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install (Error 143)
