[FC2]can write to USB stick, but cannot read

I have FC2 installed. All packages are up to date.
I can copy files to my USB memory stick, but I cannot read files from it.

"strace" shows that it starts reading and then receives an IO-Error:
..
..
read(3, "A\\\216\346\255Kz\352;.N\241\320\251\332\7\251\377B\347"..., 4096) = 4096
write(4, "A\\\216\346\255Kz\352;.N\241\320\251\332\7\251\377B\347"..., 4096) = 4096
read(3, "\322k\366\202JN\0\17~3\16\301\226(\357l\343z=)\213\35S"..., 4096) = 4096
write(4, "\322k\366\202JN\0\17~3\16\301\226(\357l\343z=)\213\35S"..., 4096) = 4096
read(3, "\246D\350\343Hd\367\341\276\32\333\3150\17\r\376.[\324"..., 4096) = 4096
write(4, "\246D\350\343Hd\367\341\276\32\333\3150\17\r\376.[\324"..., 4096) = 4096
read(3, 0xbfffe120, 4096) = -1 EIO (Input/output error)
..

In /var/log/messages I find:
Oct 11 15:27:19 ahorn kernel: SCSI error : <3 0 0 0> return code = 0x10070000
Oct 11 15:27:19 ahorn kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 752
Oct 11 15:27:19 ahorn kernel: Buffer I/O error on device sda1, logical block 645

I tried this on 2 FC2 machines with the same result.

Under XP everything works fine.

What can I do?

Joerg
