First: don't run things like those as root! There is not any need to run
a user tool with root permissions.

The error message indicates that there is no valid video device at
/dev/video0.

Check "/sbin/lspci" to list your TV card. Then check "/sbin/lsmod"
whether is lists the saa7146 kernel module. If not, then run in one
terminal "tail -f /var/log/messages" (as root) and in another one run
"modprobe -v saa7146" (as root). Check too /etc/modprobe.conf for
existing TV card related settings.
