Digital camera woes

It's probably not very interesting now but since you ask... I'm running
KDE and it doesn't show up on system tools > disk management, period.  I
mount it as root from the terminal, as a fat drive in /mnt.  Then I just
mv all the images to my home directory, umount and am done.
