X on FC2 x86_64 is too slow

As a matter of fact, I am using the generic driver installed, 'cause
there's no 64bit drivers from ATI :(

I noticed something similar: after installation, everything seemed ok.
I think I started having the mentioned problems after updating thru
yum...
