For the GNOME version, try right-clicking on the panel and selecting "About GNOME". For the hardware detection stuff, try disabling the "PNP OS" option in the BIOS, or, if it really bothers you, try upgrading the BIOS and/or firmware/ROM of the different components in your PC. Take care, though, failure to comply PERFECTLY with the flashing instructions will almost certainly result in a serious malfunction.
