Hmm.. you can install it on *any* primary partition.

If other partitions cause the installer grief - you can always hide
these partitions - install XP - and unhide them. I use 'Ranish
Partition Manager' to do these things.

The factory recovery OEM disks do some other crap - so the issues
could be different.
