Actually, after doing some more careful attempts (and _many_ reboots =))
I mapped the problem more precisely:
- using stock 2.6.8-1.521 kernel with nvidia video drivers _doesn't_
seem to trigger the problem (previous attempts were poisoned by
concurrent attempts to use nvidia's sound drivers which are known to be
buggy)
- as expected, compiling kernel by hand using
configs/kernel-2.6.8-i686.config also seems to be stable (BTW: what is
the reason for the lack of a athlon config file?)
I will now try to gradually tweak the original kernel-2.6.8-i686.config
to my personal settings and try to determine what breaks X. I guess I's
better get used to many more reboots on the next couple of days ;)
I will post back here the results.
Thks,
Andre
