I can't vouch for your level of cluelessness (:^) but you're right
that there IS a great deal of room for improvement in plugins. They are
sensitive to, among other things, the GCC version used to compile the
plugin versus that used for the browser.

There is a mozilla plugin page that, as I recall, does talk about
java plugins. (sorry, I can't go look it up right now, but it is one
of the myriad of pages at mozilla.org).
