I'm just wondering if your iRiver needs to be reflashed for USB Mass
Storage? My sister uses one that needed to be reflashed with a UMS
image so that it actually works as a UMS device.

Anyway, can you possibly run:

fdisk -l /dev/sda

and see what partitions there are? The -l option just lists partitions
without writing anything. Sometimes UMS devices don't exactly have
/dev/sda1 as the mountable partition.
