Yes, but so can aliases.

What exactly are you trying to do?

If you want:

fred at your.domain
jim at your.domain
bob at your.domain

all to go to fred's mailbox, all you need are aliases.

If you want fred at your.domain and fred at your.other.domain to go to
different mailboxes, or you want anyone at your.domain to go to your
mailbox, you want virtusertable.
