[fedora] /etc/group and /etc/gshadow

It plays the same role like /etc/shadow for the /etc/passwd when using
shadow passwords.

Yes, you have to. Or use tools like explained just a few days ago here
on the list in the thread initiated by you.

Yes, /etc/gshadow has chmod 400. But that is no problem. If you use vi
and edited that file, force write with "!w". Do not change the file
permission.
