Ide=nodma is "loosing too many ticks"

You can disable or enable DMA for specific ide ports, by creating a
file called harddiskX (where X=1 for hda, X=2 for hdb, and so on),
inside /etc, based on the general ide configuration harddisks (within
the same dir), you can see on harddisks the line # USING_DMA=1, to
enable simply delete the #, to disable delete it and change to 0
