Gpg 1.4.0 won't import secret key...

Hey all,

I am cannot get GPG 1.4.0 to import my secret key. I am using the command:

    gpg --import --allow-secret-key-import <filename>

The command reads the file correctly and recognizes both public and secret 
keys. But it then says gives the error:
    gpg: importing secret keys not allowed
and does not process it.

Any one got any solution?
