Migrating from Mandrake to Fedora

I liked KDE, and found Fedora will support KDE, but is not truly
friendly to it.  Too many of the system-* tools seem to do goofy things
to me.  So, I have given up and gone to GNOME, but still prefer KDE.

On the other hand, urpmi is a great idea that just does not work exactly
right either.  While not a big fan of yum, I LOVE apt.  The repos are
much better maintained due to saints like Dag Wieers.  Therefore, I
found much better software updates.  I actually use apt to update its
local cache each night via cron, then send me an email informing me of
what needs upgrading.  I then create a local icon on my desktop that
will issue the upgrade command per server.  This allows me to have all
the advantages of a automatically updated system, with enough of a delay
to control the insanity.  Awesome system.

Lastly, Mandriva is much quicker to implement some of the gray licensed
(mp3, dvd, etc) packages.  I think Redhat gets a little too religious on
the subject, but understand why.  Mandriva is pretty loose on the
subject, so some users may complain if these are desktops.  The
community, though, is great about how to find, and install, those
packages.  They just wont come in the box.
