New Kernel (2.6.11) doesn't like me

Hi all;

I've recently installed KDE 3.4 and the latest kernel. I have two issues with
the latest kernel (2.6.11-1.14_FC3):
1. with the previous kernel my touchpad on my sony Vaio (VGN-S260) worked
perfectly. I've had to add some code to my xorg.conf file which has helped
under th new kernel but it's still not quite right. The tap feature doen't
work as well as previously and the movement is in general sluggish and it's
even more difficult to navigate small movements.

2. two times now since installing the latest kernel my machine has locked up
tighter than a small child holding onto the last piece of candy (i.e. nothing
works). I cannot click, run any keyboard sequences, etc. my only option is to
power down hard. There is no pattern or similarity between the lockups. The
first time I had selected shutdown from the KDE menu and it was between the
point where the system logged me out and where I see the list of services
being stopped - I was simply locked at a blank screen. The second time a few
days later I tried to close a konsole window , once I clicked on the X at the
top right corner to close the window the system immediately stopped
responding to any mouse or keyboard input.

For now I've gone back to 2.6.10-1.770_FC3 -

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer in terms of a fix or how to debug
these issues...
