Hi all,
            First of all many thanks to Alexander Dalloz for answering
the question about multiple logical network devices which enabled me
to get this laptop running at home now.

I'll provide some more information about the system which can't boot
WinXP. I install grub as normal. Here's my grub configuration:

(root at localhost:~)# cat /boot/grub/grub.conf

# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.
#          root (hd0,6)
#          kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/hda10
#          initrd /initrd-version.img
#boot=/dev/hda
default=0
timeout=5
splashimage=(hd0,4)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
hiddenmenu
title Windows XP
        rootnoverify (hd0,0)
        chainloader +1
title Fedora Core 3 (2.6.10-1.770_FC3)
        root (hd0,4)
        kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.10-1.770_FC3 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb max_scsi_luns=8
        initrd /initrd-2.6.10-1.770_FC3.img

And the harddisk looks like this:

(root at localhost:~)# fdisk -l /dev/hda

Disk /dev/hda: 60.0 GB, 60060155904 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7301 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1   *           1        1275    10241406    7  HPFS/NTFS

/dev/hda5            1276        1288      104359+  83  Linux

/dev/hda7            1799        2104     2457913+  83  Linux
/dev/hda8            2105        2359     2048256   83  Linux
/dev/hda9            2360        2499     1124518+  83  Linux
/dev/hda10           2500        2550      409626   83  Linux
/dev/hda11           2551        3825    10241406    7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda12           3826        7300    27912906    b  W95 FAT32

It' s my friend who partitioned his harddisk and I've no clue to what
he did to the latter--- He might have partitioned the whole thing
wrongly. I just installed FC3 in it and partitioned the empty space
for Linux. As for his windows stuff I' ve also no idea but it did boot
beforehand.

Everything is just normal install. I didn't do anything fancy. Thanks
for the help.
