sounds to me like it is behaving as it should. It sounds as if you want
it to revert to some previously broken behavior
blank spaces have to be escaped or replaced with %20
ls -l /var/www/html/my file.html
http://localhost/my\ file.html
note that the link isn't clickable
http://localhost/my%20file.html
notice that the link is clickable
file:///var/www/hml/my\ file.html
file:///var/www/html/my%20file.html
