One other thought.  Make sure you are logged into the KDE environment. The 
default is to use the GNOME desktop environment. You can select the desktop 
at the login screen. To change the default desktop to KDE you can do the 
following:
1) open a command line window (terminal) 
	(in gnome I think it's system tools-->terminal)
2) run the command:
    switchdesk KDE

3) restart the X-server
 (Control-Alt-Backspace) or reboot
