ibm xseries server - intel nic not found - Please help

Hi,

for some starnge reason install did not pick up my
(built in) network card.

so i downloaded the driver and did make install.
however when i did modprobe e100 i get <path>
init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module
parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
      You may find more information in syslog or the
output from dmesg

the file e100.o is there. dmesg shows a intel card.

same error for lsmod as well.

so we move on to 'lspci -v' this gives me 

04:03.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown
device 1075
Subsystem:IBM: Unknown device 02ae

i added in modules.conf alias eth0 e100

rebooted and built the driver under various kernals.
rebuilt and installed the driver as an rpm.

nothing has helped !!!

any ideas ??
