java-1.5.0-sun-plugin-1.5.0.04-1jpp doesn't work

     Has anyone managed to build the current java-1.5.0-sun.spec and 
have the resulting java plugin work within firefox when the 
java-1.5.0-sun-plugin-1.5.0.04-1jpp rpm is installed and a symlink is
created in either /usr/lib/firefox-1.0.6/plugins or in 
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins points to

/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.04/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

If I visit the test page at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
I see errors at the bottom of the firefox window that...

Applet testvm notinited

and then

Loading Java Applet Failed.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Oh, this is with current Fedora Core 4.
