Can 32-bit Linux be installed on 64-bit laptop (and is it a good idea)?

Sounds *pretty* unlikely, in my humble opinion.
I don't think X.org would accept it unless it was under an X-style
license. And the last I heard, ATi weren't happy with open-source
licenses because they thought they had "valuable intellectual property"
in their source code.
I should have thought we'd have heard if ATi was about to relax that.
On the other hand, we might get better 2D support with ATi's help.
On the third hand, I went a-Googling, and found a couple of
Spanish-language sites talking about improved ATi support in 7.0. This
points back to http://xorg.freedesktop.org/wiki/ChangesSince68 , but it
all reads as though it's normal open source development.
