Login as "root" user before edit.

1) open terminal (command line) - right click on desktop and select
"Open terminal" from context menu
2) type "su -" (without quotes) in terminal
3) enter root user password
4) type "gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf" (or your favourite editor instead
of gedit)
5) edit and save file
