grub.conf emptied, and now i get kernel panic?

You are right .. I can't spell. But my point is that the lines should
be:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz...
initrd /boot/initrd..
Not:
kernel /vmlinuz...
initrd /initrd...
That is the problem.
