theoretical question - can root's username be changed?

Guy gave you a pretty good list, but did not mention 
su -
console helper (used with all the system-config-xxxxx tools)
    (I have tested the two above myself.)
the mail aliases file /etc/aliases.  Yes, it can be changed but would be
a pain.

And so many others that I do not have time to research the details. (I
am not planning to remove the username of root at any foreseeable future
time, so do not need to be that exhaustive.)
