Should the USB subsystem unmount a disk when disconnected?

indeed. after issuing unmount or eject requests, i always watch the
activity light on the device and wait for it to stop before removing
the device or the card. this is important regardless of OS, it matters
on Fedora, on OS X, on Windows ...
