Okay, so XMMS is running fine now? Great :-D

I think the RealPlayer experience has poisioned your view of online
radio streams. As they list some of them there and yuo simply click.
You will need to find some radio streams you like, then simply click
File > Play From Location.

To find some radio stream you can hit the major search sites,
google.com. Or take a look at http://www.shoutcast.com/. They have
many stations listed there, so I am sure you will find one for your
likings.

Let me know if you need any more help getting XMMS up and running.
