Links To Application

hi all. [me again the one who has FC1]
i downloaded Firefox 1.5* and mozilla 1.8* source packages from
frp.mozilla.org.
and i am able to run both with ./mozilla-* or ./firefox
but i want to add links to application on desktop for both of these.
but when i browse for the executables, i cannot start these programs :(
execute : /roor/.firefox/firefox now works!
press the icon on my desktop, icon shows up for a few seconds, then
disappers ...
is there anything that i miss ?
how can i use such an executable in a link to application on my desktop ?
Urgent help needed.

(ps: not installed any rpm packages, just a source code downloaded from
mozilla.org)
