samba crashes when starting it automatically (FC4 x86_64)

I have a strange problem with my AMD64 box running FC4 x86_64. Samba
won't start automatically, it always fails while starting the smb
daemon:

/etc/init.d/functions: line 83: 26762
Aborted                 /usr/sbin/smbd -D
                                                           [FAILED]

nmbd always starts fine.

When I start smbd by hand using 'smbd -D' it works just dandy. What can
be the problem?

BTW system is fully updated. Reinstalling initscripts didn't work.
