It's not so much that running a Linux server on the WWW is fraught with
danger, but running a public server using *any* OS has its drawbacks,
some of which (as I and Scott posted) had little to do with your own
system, at all (handling the traffic coming at you, good and bad, and
keeping your server running when you need it, etc.).
