Disk defragmenter in Linux

>From my experience at least, defragmenters are not necessary. What I think
was happening in your case is that your system was probably using alout of
virtual memory, and so when it was running low on disk space, it couldn't do
it paging to virtual memory as efficiently as before (just a theory)
